Marcus Rashford experienced a period of uncertainty in January. Under the new management at Manchester United, it became apparent that Rashford was likely to leave the club where he developed. His next club was not immediately clear.

Rashford, an England national team player, was said to prefer a transfer to a foreign team, at least initially. There was interest from AC Milan, though they ended up signing Kyle Walker. Barcelona also showed interest but lacked the financial capacity to complete the transfer. Olympique de Marseille was another club interested in acquiring Rashford. Even before Elye Wahi’s move to Eintracht Frankfurt, Marseille was seeking to bolster their attacking options.

Marseille did sign Amine Gouiri from Stade Rennais, but they were still open to further additions to their squad. It’s understood that Rashford was indeed a target for Marseille, alongside Real Madrid’s Endrick. Reports indicate that Rashford was even intrigued by the possibility of playing at the Vélodrome stadium. Ultimately, however, he signed with Aston Villa on a loan agreement until the end of the current season.
