Inter Milan’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, has revealed that forward Marcus Thuram has been enduring an ankle problem for the past month. This injury has led to a recent decline in his performance, and he has been relying on painkillers and injections to continue playing and support the team.
Thuram has been a key attacking player for Inter this season, being their top scorer. However, his goalscoring form has decreased since the beginning of the year, and this ankle injury has further hampered his effectiveness on the field.

Thuram’s Ankle Injury Hampering Inter Performance
Inzaghi explained that Thuram’s ankle issue originated on February 10th during a home game against Fiorentina. He had to be substituted early in that match due to limping.
While the injury was confirmed and required rest, Inter prioritized getting Thuram back quickly for a significant match against Juventus. This rushed return to fitness seems to have negatively impacted his form in the subsequent weeks.
Thuram was absent from the following game against Genoa but returned to play against Napoli in early March. However, he was substituted in that game after struggling to make his usual impact.
Despite the injury, Thuram managed to score Inter’s first goal in a Champions League match against Feyenoord last week. However, there were visible signs of discomfort when he was sprinting, indicating that the ankle problem is still affecting him.

Inzaghi Confirms Thuram’s Pain Management
Inzaghi acknowledged that Thuram is still experiencing difficulties with the injury and is unable to train at his usual intensity. As a result, he has been using painkillers and injections to be available for selection during this crucial part of the season.
“There’s no hiding that Thuram has been dealing with an issue for a month now, which is causing him problems,” Inzaghi stated in a press conference. “He can’t train as he normally does and has been playing with painkillers and injections. He is always committed and helps the team, but we need to manage his situation.”

Inzaghi further added, “I would prefer him to be able to train more physically, which would mean he is fully fit. But in the last month, he hasn’t been able to due to this problem. I am still deciding whether he will start or be on the bench tomorrow. He is a very important player, and his dip in form is solely because of this ankle issue. He is also a true professional.”
