Marotta: Inter and Milan Aim for New Stadium by 2030
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has revealed ambitious plans for a new stadium shared with AC Milan. The clubs hope to start construction in 2027 and open the venue in 2030, marking a significant step forward in their long-standing stadium project.
For nearly a decade, both Milan giants have been pushing to build a modern arena in the current parking area of the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium at San Siro. After facing numerous obstacles and exploring alternatives outside the city, local authorities have finally agreed to revisit the original plan.
Progress on San Siro Project
Marotta announced that Inter and Milan recently submitted an offer to purchase San Siro and its surrounding areas from local authorities. This move will trigger a public tender process to gauge interest from other potential buyers.
“Our goal is to become owners of this area,” Marotta explained at an Inter Club event. “Following the necessary bureaucratic procedures, if all goes well, construction could begin in 2027. We’re optimistic about meeting this timeline and hope to inaugurate the new stadium in 2030.”
While some oppose demolishing the iconic Stadio Meazza, both clubs insist that renovating the existing structure is impractical due to their busy match schedules. Marotta acknowledged the emotional attachment to San Siro but emphasized the need to focus on the future.
“San Siro has been a container of emotions. I witnessed Inter win their second European Cup here in 1965,” Marotta reminisced. “However, we must now look ahead, and that means building a modern stadium.”
This development signals a potential end to years of uncertainty surrounding the future home of Milan’s top football clubs, promising a state-of-the-art venue for fans and players alike.
