Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has expressed deep concerns over the prolonged delays surrounding the San Siro stadium situation, labeling it “embarrassing” for both Inter and AC Milan. Speaking before Inter`s match against Sassuolo, Marotta highlighted the urgent need for a modern stadium to meet international standards.
“As a football professional, this situation is rather embarrassing,” Marotta told DAZN Italia. “Sports in Milan are being sidelined. We can`t meet the criteria to host a Champions League final at San Siro, and the stadium wasn`t approved as a venue for Euro 2032.”
Marotta criticized the conservative approach of some political figures, emphasizing that both Inter and AC Milan desperately require an up-to-date stadium. He warned that if the situation remains unresolved, both clubs may be forced to leave Milan, which would be detrimental to the city.
“If we can`t find a solution, both clubs might have to relocate outside the city. That would be terrible for Milan,” Marotta stated. He expressed cautious optimism about the efforts of Mayor Sala and hoped that common sense would ultimately prevail.
Focus on Present and Future
Addressing Inter`s current form, Marotta discussed the team`s recent struggles in Serie A and their midweek Champions League victory against Ajax. He highlighted the club`s commitment to nurturing young talent, mentioning players like Francesco Pio Esposito.
“It`s our responsibility to consider both the present and future,” Marotta explained. “Young players have potential, so it`s appropriate for the coach to evaluate them. This approach serves Inter`s best interests.”
Marotta also commented on the decision to rest goalkeeper Yann Sommer, praising his professionalism and understanding of the need to assess future prospects for the club.
“Pio has all the qualities needed to succeed. He`s intelligent and a good person. We`re optimistic about Inter`s future and that of the Italian national team,” Marotta concluded.
