Paul Pogba (31) is now officially allowed to continue his football career following the reduction of his doping suspension from four years to 18 months.
However, Pogba, nicknamed “La Pioche,” is currently without a club. After the announcement of his reduced ban, Pogba and Juventus mutually agreed to terminate his contract, making him a free agent. Olympique de Marseille has been frequently mentioned as a possible destination for the French international player.
In early February, Marseille’s sporting director Medhi Benatia spoke to L’Équipe and confirmed that the club had considered signing the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder. However, due to Pogba’s current fitness level, Benatia stated that it didn’t make sense to pursue a transfer before the end of the season.
Benatia added, “If something becomes feasible, we would be thrilled to welcome a player of Paul Pogba’s caliber.” The possibility remains open. According to L’Équipe, Pogba has yet to decide on his future and is attracting interest from clubs in MLS and Japan, where the transfer windows are still open.
Nevertheless, if Pogba remains without a club by the summer, Marseille might reconsider their interest. Pogba has previously indicated his preference to stay in Europe, which would enhance his chances of returning to the French national team.
