Marseille Scoffs at Roma’s Reported €20m Offer for Captain Balerdi
Olympique de Marseille’s Argentine defender and captain, Leonardo Balerdi, has been attracting attention from top clubs due to his impressive performances this season. Italian Serie A club AS Roma has reportedly shown interest in acquiring the player, with sources suggesting a potential €20 million bid.
However, Marseille has firmly dismissed the notion of selling their captain for such a sum. A club source humorously remarked, “€20 million for Balerdi? Perhaps, but only for his left toe.” This statement clearly indicates that Marseille values their defender significantly higher than the rumored offer.
Reports suggest that Marseille may consider offers around €45 million for Balerdi, highlighting the club’s determination to retain their key player. Marseille’s manager, Roberto De Zerbi, expressed his hope that major European clubs would overlook Balerdi, stating, “I’m pleased he’s flying under the radar of big teams.”
As the transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Roma or other clubs will meet Marseille’s high valuation for their captain. For now, Marseille appears intent on keeping Balerdi as a crucial part of their squad for the foreseeable future.
