Marseille Struggles to Secure Serie A Midfield Targets Before Deadline
As the January transfer window draws to a close, Marseille is facing obstacles in their attempts to acquire midfield reinforcements from Serie A. The French club has set its sights on two Italian league players but is encountering resistance in negotiations.
Reports indicate that Marseille has been in discussions for both AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer and Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli. While personal terms have allegedly been agreed with Bennacer, Milan is reluctant to sanction a sale without securing a replacement first – a challenging task given the limited time remaining in the transfer period.
Marseille has reportedly offered a €1 million loan fee for Bennacer, with an option or obligation to buy for approximately €10 million in the summer. However, Milan has not accepted these terms.
Regarding Fagioli, Juventus appears open to a transfer, but the situation is complicated by interest from Fiorentina. The player himself is said to prefer a move within Italy to Florence rather than abroad to France.
With the transfer deadline looming, Marseille faces an uphill battle to secure either of these midfield targets from Serie A. The clock is ticking as they attempt to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
