Marseille Targets Borussia Dortmund’s Ramy Bensebaini to Bolster Defense
Olympique de Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has been struggling with defensive issues in his inaugural season at the club. The Italian coach has been forced to utilize players out of their natural positions to form a three-man backline, with midfielders like Geoffrey Kondogbia often filling in as makeshift defenders.
Despite the January acquisition of Luiz Felipe from Saudi Arabia, the defensive woes have persisted, prompting the club to explore further reinforcements for the upcoming transfer window. According to reports from Sky Sport Germany, Marseille has set its sights on Borussia Dortmund’s versatile defender Ramy Bensebaini.
The 30-year-old Algerian international, whose contract with Dortmund runs until 2027, has emerged as a potential target for the French club. While Marseille has yet to initiate formal contact with Bensebaini, sources suggest that Borussia Dortmund may be open to negotiations for the player’s transfer.
In addition to Bensebaini, Marseille is also monitoring other defensive options, including Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana and former Manchester City center-back Aymeric Laporte, who currently plays in Saudi Arabia. These potential acquisitions underscore the club’s determination to address their defensive shortcomings and strengthen their squad for the coming season.
