Marseille’s Pursuit of Amine Gouiri: Second Bid in the Works
Olympique de Marseille (OM) is preparing to submit a revised offer for Stade Rennais forward Amine Gouiri, following the rejection of their initial proposal. The 24-year-old Algerian international has caught the eye of OM’s management, who are keen to bolster their attacking lineup.
The first bid, reportedly consisting of a €2 million loan fee with a €10 million obligation to buy, was deemed insufficient by Rennes. Undeterred, Marseille is now crafting a more attractive proposal, though the specifics remain undisclosed.
Gouiri, whose contract with Rennes runs until 2027, is said to be open to the move. If successful, this transfer would mark Gouiri’s fourth Ligue 1 club, following his stints at Lyon, Nice, and Rennes.
The urgency for Marseille to secure a striker has intensified after the recent sale of Elye Wahi to Eintracht Frankfurt. Manager Roberto De Zerbi has emphasized the need for a “strong replacement” to join the current attacking options of Neal Maupay, Mason Greenwood, and young talent Robinio Vaz.
De Zerbi expressed confidence in finding a suitable striker, stating, “If Wahi leaves, a strong player will arrive. It’s challenging in the winter transfer window, but I’m expecting a quality replacement. We will secure a striker!”
As negotiations continue, all eyes are on Marseille to see if they can successfully bring Gouiri into their ranks and strengthen their offensive capabilities for the remainder of the season.
