Mateo Pellegrino: Parma’s New Argentine Striker with a Football Legacy
Parma has bolstered its attacking options with the acquisition of Mateo Pellegrino, a promising young striker from Argentina. The 22-year-old has joined the Italian club on a long-term contract until 2029, arriving from Velez Sarsfield for a reported fee of 2 million euros plus 50% of any future transfer.
Pellegrino, who holds dual Argentine and Spanish citizenship, has shown potential despite limited playing time at Velez. He scored once in 14 appearances, totaling just 163 minutes on the pitch. However, his previous stint at Atletico Platense was more prolific, netting 15 goals in 53 matches.
The young forward comes from a notable football background. His father, Mauricio Pellegrino, enjoyed a successful career as a defender, representing clubs like Barcelona, Valencia, and Liverpool. The elder Pellegrino has since transitioned into management, currently leading Lanus in Argentina after spells with various clubs across Europe and South America, including a brief stint on Rafa Benitez’s coaching staff at Inter Milan in 2010.
Parma fans will be eager to see if Mateo can live up to his family name and make a significant impact in Serie A as the club aims to strengthen its squad for the remainder of the season.
