McTominay and Politano Emphasize Self-Focus in Serie A Title Chase
Scott McTominay and Matteo Politano of Napoli stress the importance of concentrating on their own team’s performance in the Serie A championship race. McTominay also commends his teammate Romelu Lukaku, describing him as “an excellent colleague who sets high standards.”
McTominay’s outstanding performance in Napoli’s recent 3-0 victory over Empoli, where he scored twice, earned him the Serie A Man of the Match award. His teammate Lukaku also contributed significantly with a goal and two assists.
“Romelu is a fantastic teammate,” McTominay told DAZN. “He’s very demanding, expecting a lot from the entire team and pushing me to score more and create more opportunities for him as well. With two assists and a goal in this match, he’s clearly a top-class player with an impressive career. We’re thrilled to have him on our side.”
Despite their strong performance, Napoli remains three points behind league leaders Inter with six matches left in the season.
McTominay added, “I’ve always dreamed of winning trophies and being a champion. That feeling will stay with me until I retire. We can’t afford to look too far ahead or worry about other teams. Our focus must be on ourselves and maintaining a clear mindset.”
Politano, who has already won a Serie A title with Napoli, shared his thoughts: “The new players can feel the love from our fans. When we returned from Bergamo, they immediately understood the environment and became motivated to achieve this challenging goal.”
He continued, “We have big dreams, but we must concentrate on the next game, secure three points, and then see what happens. We were well-prepared for this match and knew its importance. We need to enjoy ourselves and focus on our own performance. We’re a strong team and must maintain this playing style and attitude. Our focus should be on ourselves, and we’ll see how Inter performs.”
