McTominay Embraces New Nicknames After Napoli’s 2-0 Win
Scott McTominay has become a key figure in Napoli’s Serie A campaign, scoring two goals in their recent 2-0 victory over Torino. The Scottish midfielder has now broken Denis Law’s record, becoming the highest-scoring Scottish player in a single Serie A season with 11 goals.
McTominay’s recent form has been exceptional, with four goals in his last three matches. His performance at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona has earned him several affectionate nicknames from Napoli fans, including “McTerminator,” “MacGyver,” and “the bottle opener” for his ability to unlock tight games.
When asked about his favorite nickname, McTominay laughed, “McFratm is the best one! Mazzocchi would say that.” The term “Fratm” is Neapolitan dialect for “brother,” highlighting McTominay’s quick integration into the team and local culture.
Despite Napoli’s current position at the top of the table, McTominay remains cautious about title talk. “It would mean the world, obviously the squad did it two years ago. We mustn’t get too high, as now we are leading the race, but we’ve got to keep calm, keep everything relaxed and go game by game,” he stated.
Teammate Leonardo Spinazzola praised McTominay’s impact, saying, “You can see the player he is, I can only say that he is a special guy, golden, always smiling and happy, an incredible worker. We are so lucky to have him.”
As Napoli continues their pursuit of another Serie A title, McTominay’s contributions both on and off the field appear to be instrumental in the team’s success. The blend of his Scottish determination and Neapolitan passion could prove to be the winning formula for the club’s championship aspirations.
