Following AC Milan`s 2-0 victory over Monza in their final Serie A match, assistant coach Joao Costa, standing in for the suspended Sergio Conceicao, hinted at discussions to come regarding the team`s disappointing 7th place finish.
The win, secured by goals from Matteo Gabbia and Joao Felix, did little to salvage a season that fell far short of expectations for the storied club. Notably, Felix`s free-kick goal was Milan`s first in the league since May 2023.
Costa emphasized the club`s lofty ambitions, stating, “For Milan, the players, and the fans, the goal must always be first place. We`ll begin analyzing the season and our final position tomorrow, but tonight we should focus on this game.”
The assistant coach also touched on the challenges of managing a diverse squad: “This team comprises many players with unique personalities. It`s like a family – you need time to understand and get to know each other.”
Regarding the match itself, Costa noted, “We started slowly but improved after halftime, showing more intensity. We`re pleased with the result.”
With the season concluded, Milan is expected to make significant changes. Reports suggest that new sporting director Igli Tare will soon be announced, likely followed by the departure of head coach Conceicao.
As the club looks to regroup and aim higher for next season, fans and pundits alike will be eagerly awaiting official statements from Milan`s management in the coming days.
