AC Milan`s week has taken a turn for the worse. Following the senior team`s loss in the Coppa Italia Final, their youth squad, Milan Futuro, has now been relegated to Serie D.
The Rossoneri have experienced a challenging period, with the 1-0 defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia Final also diminishing their chances of qualifying for the Europa League.
Milan is among the select few clubs, alongside Juventus and Atalanta, that opted to register an Under-23 team for Serie C competition.
Milan Futuro`s Unsuccessful First Year
The initiative did not unfold as planned in its inaugural year. This season proved disastrous, culminating in their loss to SPAL in the relegation play-out. Despite winning the first leg 1-0, they suffered a 2-0 defeat away in the second leg.
The club had invested €15 million in the project, which has now been deemed a complete failure. This outcome persisted even after Massimo Oddo replaced Daniele Bonera as coach in February.
Much of the criticism is being directed at director of sport Jovan Kirovski, who was primarily hired due to his connection with special consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
