Milan Stars Criticized for Poor Performance in Recent Victory
Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello has harshly criticized Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao for their subpar performances during the team’s recent 3-2 comeback victory over Parma. Both players were substituted at halftime in a dramatic match at San Siro.
Current Milan manager Sergio Conceicao made headlines by making the bold decision to replace two of his key players after just 45 minutes. This move preceded a heated exchange with defender Davide Calabria following the final whistle.
Capello praised Conceicao’s courage in substituting Hernandez and Leao, but cautioned that similar tactics had limited success under previous manager Paulo Fonseca. The former coach emphasized that both players need to reflect on their own performances rather than question the manager’s decisions.
In his column for Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello wrote, “Theo and Leao were off the pitch by the time Milan mounted their comeback. Being substituted at halftime is completely unacceptable, especially considering their attitudes.”
Capello continued, “I support Conceicao’s decision to make the double substitution. While Milan’s left flank is theoretically their strongest asset, I believe this sent a clear message to all players: play without commitment, and you’ll be removed regardless of your status.”
The veteran coach expressed particular concern about Hernandez’s recent form, suggesting that the French defender’s “mind seems to be elsewhere.” This criticism highlights the growing pressure on Milan’s star players to consistently perform at the highest level.
As Milan continues to fight for top positions in Serie A, the team’s ability to bounce back from adversity and the willingness of key players to rise to challenges will be crucial factors in their pursuit of success this season.
