Milan Target Gimenez Not Injured in Champions League Match
Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, a transfer target for AC Milan, was substituted early during his team’s 6-1 Champions League defeat against Lille on Tuesday night. However, reports that Gimenez left the stadium on crutches appear to be inaccurate.
The 23-year-old Mexican international opened the scoring for Feyenoord after 14 minutes but was forced off with a suspected muscle issue shortly after. While footage circulated on social media showing a Feyenoord player departing on crutches, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims this was actually goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, not Gimenez.
Gimenez is set to undergo medical tests on Wednesday to determine the extent of his injury. It remains unclear if he will be available for Feyenoord’s upcoming league fixture against Ajax.
AC Milan maintain strong interest in signing Gimenez, with personal terms reportedly already agreed. However, the Serie A club has yet to reach an agreement with Feyenoord over a transfer fee, having already had an initial bid rejected.
The two clubs could potentially meet in the Champions League knockout stages, adding another layer of intrigue to Milan’s pursuit of the in-demand striker.
