Takumi Minamino, the 30-year-old Japanese international, has prolonged his commitment to AS Monaco by signing a contract extension until 2027. This new deal, signed on Tuesday, ensures Minamino will remain with the club in the Principality for several more years.
After an initial period of adjustment following his €15 million transfer from Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Minamino rediscovered his form in his second season. He contributed significantly to the team’s attack, scoring nine goals and providing six assists across 31 appearances in all competitions. He has maintained this strong performance level into the current season, with six goals and five assists in 33 games, solidifying his role as a key player for Monaco.
With his previous contract nearing its end, there were questions about his future at the club. However, by signing a one-year extension, Minamino has secured his position at Monaco. Speaking at a press conference, Minamino expressed his satisfaction with the new contract.
“I am very happy about my extension. My desire is to stay here for as long as possible,” Minamino stated. “The club offered me a one-year extension, and I am very pleased with this. I feel the club’s trust in me, which is paramount. The belief shown by the coach, the staff, and the club is why I decided to sign.”
Considering his age, Minamino was asked about the possibility of finishing his career at Monaco. He replied, “I want to stay here as long as possible because Monaco is an amazing club. I also aspire to compete at the highest level in Europe every season. After this contract, I will be 32, and we will assess the situation then.”
