Monaco’s Goalkeeper Dilemma: Coach Hütter Expresses Concerns
AS Monaco has faced ongoing challenges with their goalkeeping position over the past year. Head coach Adi Hütter recently admitted that the club is not entirely satisfied with the current situation between the posts.
The arrival of Philipp Köhn in mid-2023 failed to provide stability, as his initial performances raised doubts among the club’s management. This led to Radoslaw Majecki taking over and impressing towards the end of the previous season, seemingly securing the number one spot.
However, the start of the new season saw another shift. Majecki began as the first choice but struggled to maintain his form after returning from an injury. A crucial error in a recent match against Toulouse FC prompted Hütter to reinstate Köhn, who may now retain the position for the remainder of the season.
In a recent press conference, Hütter stated, “We’ll assess whether Philipp remains our primary goalkeeper for the rest of the season. He’s set to start against OGC Nice, and we’re hopeful he can build on his clean sheet against Angers.”
The coach emphasized the collective nature of the team’s performance, saying, “It’s crucial to remember that we succeed or fail as a unit. No single player bears sole responsibility for our results.”
In a separate interview, Hütter candidly expressed the club’s dissatisfaction with the goalkeeping situation, saying, “We’re not fully content with how things stand. We’re hoping Philipp can replicate Radek’s strong finish to last season and help us achieve our goals.”
