Monaco’s Interest in Désiré Doué: PSG’s €50m Signing Almost Joined Rival Club
Désiré Doué has made an impressive start to his career at Paris Saint-Germain following his €50 million transfer from Stade Rennais at the beginning of the season. The young French international has already participated in 30 matches, scoring four goals and providing eight assists. Alongside teammates Ousmane Dembélé, Khivcha Kvaratskhelia, and Bradley Barcola, Doué is rapidly becoming a key creative force in Luis Enrique’s team.
However, AS Monaco manager Adi Hütter has revealed that the talented player’s career could have taken a different path. In an exclusive interview, Hütter disclosed that Monaco had seriously considered pursuing Doué during the summer transfer window, prior to PSG’s approach.
Hütter expressed his admiration for Doué’s skills, stating, “When I saw Doué at Rennes, I was amazed. His dribbling abilities against us were impressive. We had extensive discussions about him, but then PSG made their offer. It was a substantial amount of money.” The sizeable bid from PSG effectively prevented Monaco from advancing their interest in the player.
This revelation sheds light on the competitive nature of football transfers and the financial power wielded by top clubs like PSG in securing promising young talent. It also highlights the potential alternative scenarios that could have unfolded in Doué’s career had Monaco managed to secure his signature.
