Monaco’s New Striker Mika Biereth: An Old-School Goal Scorer

AS Monaco has added a new weapon to their attacking arsenal with the signing of 21-year-old Danish striker Mika Biereth. In his introductory press conference, Biereth described himself as an “old-school” forward, drawing inspiration from prolific scorers like Erling Haaland and Didier Drogba.

Despite his youth career at Chelsea and Fulham, followed by a stint at Arsenal, Biereth never made a first-team appearance for the Gunners. He explained that player development isn’t always linear, especially for young talents. After loan spells at RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell, and Sturm Graz, Biereth feels he has significantly improved since age 19.

His impressive performance at Sturm Graz, where he scored 14 goals in 25 matches across all competitions, caught Monaco’s attention. The club’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, praised Biereth’s determination to join Les Monégasques, seeing it as a long-term investment.

Biereth describes his playing style as that of a “dying breed” of strikers. While he acknowledges the importance of build-up play, his primary focus is finding the back of the net. “I love scoring goals,” he stated, “Sometimes my goals aren’t the prettiest, but a goal is a goal.”

At Monaco, Biereth reunites with former Arsenal youth teammate Folarin Balogun. With four strikers now in the squad, competition for playing time will be fierce. Biereth is already included in the team for an upcoming Coupe de France match against Stade de Reims, eager to make an immediate impact for his new club.
