Montpellier Rejects Manager Gasset’s Resignation Offer

Following a chaotic match against Saint-Étienne, Montpellier HSC manager Jean-Louis Gasset proposed his resignation to the club’s leadership. However, the offer was declined by the organization.

The recent game between Montpellier and Saint-Étienne was called off due to unruly spectator behavior. Saint-Étienne, positioned just above last-place Montpellier in the standings, took a 2-0 lead despite being reduced to 10 players. This sparked violent reactions from the crowd at Stade de la Mosson, leading to the match’s abandonment.

It remains uncertain whether Saint-Étienne will be awarded the victory or if Montpellier will face penalties from league authorities. Montpellier continues to occupy the bottom spot in Ligue 1, with their chances of avoiding relegation looking increasingly slim.

Gasset, who has already acknowledged the team’s dire situation, is set to leave his position at the conclusion of the season. Reports suggest he may have input in selecting his replacement. Despite offering to step down immediately during a meeting with club executives Laurent and Olivier Nicollin, Gasset was asked to continue leading the team until the end of the campaign.
