Montpellier’s Leading Goalscorer Arnaud Nordin Makes Move to Mainz
Montpellier HSC has lost another key attacking player in their battle against relegation. Following Akor Adams’ departure to Sevilla, 26-year-old Arnaud Nordin has now made a move to the German Bundesliga, joining FSV Mainz on a contract until 2028.
The transfer fee for the Paris-born striker is estimated to be around €1 million. Nordin was Montpellier’s top scorer in Ligue 1 this season, having found the net four times in 16 appearances.
Nordin cited the playing style at Mainz and the presence of familiar faces as factors in his decision to join the Bundesliga club. He expressed excitement about getting to know the fans, city, and culture in his new surroundings.
Known for his versatility across attacking positions, excellent dribbling skills, and ability to use both feet, Nordin leaves Montpellier as they struggle in the relegation zone. The French club currently sits second from bottom with 15 points, facing a tough battle to maintain their top-flight status.
Meanwhile, Mainz is enjoying a strong season in the Bundesliga, currently occupying sixth place with 31 points. The German club is in contention for European competition, sitting just two points behind fourth-placed VfB Stuttgart and a potential Champions League spot.
Nordin’s arrival could provide a boost to Mainz’s attacking options as they push for European qualification, while Montpellier will need to find ways to compensate for the loss of their leading goalscorer in their fight against relegation.
