Monza’s Izzo Cleared of Match-Fixing and Mafia Ties: A Decade-Long Legal Saga Ends

After a prolonged legal battle spanning nearly ten years, Monza defender Armando Izzo has been fully exonerated by the Naples Court of Appeal. The charges of external complicity in mafia association were dismissed as unfounded, bringing an end to a nightmarish ordeal for the player.

The allegations stemmed from a Serie B match in the 2013-2014 season when Izzo was playing for Avellino. Monza, Izzo’s current club, released a statement expressing their satisfaction with the verdict. The court ruled that Izzo did not commit sports fraud aggravated by mafia methods in relation to the Modena-Avellino match on May 17, 2014.

Izzo expressed his relief and gratitude following the ruling: “I’m very satisfied with the verdict. I’ve always had faith in the justice system.” He thanked his legal team, family, and Monza’s management for their unwavering support throughout the ordeal.

This acquittal marks a significant turning point in Izzo’s career, clearing his name and allowing him to focus on his future in football without the shadow of these serious allegations.
