Nantes Eyeing Monaco Midfielder Eliot Matazo
While AS Monaco has successfully promoted several academy graduates to their first team, 22-year-old Belgian midfielder Eliot Matazo has found it challenging to establish himself. Despite high hopes, Matazo has largely been confined to a substitute role and has failed to cement his place in the squad.
After a loan spell at Royal Antwerp last season, Matazo returned to Monaco but has seen limited action. He has made only seven appearances this season, with just one start in a cup match against a lower-division opponent. This lack of playing time persists even when other midfielders have been sidelined with injuries.
Given his current situation, Matazo may be looking for a move away from Monaco in the January transfer window. French club FC Nantes has reportedly initiated discussions to acquire the midfielder, who is under contract with Monaco until 2026.
While Nantes is interested, the financial aspects of a permanent transfer might prove challenging. As a result, a loan deal could be a more feasible option for both clubs. This potential move could provide Matazo with the opportunity for more regular playing time and a chance to fulfill his potential.
