Napoli Eyes Scottish Midfielder Lewis Ferguson as Possible Anguissa Successor

According to Italian media reports, Napoli is considering targeting Scotland international midfielder Lewis Ferguson from Bologna if Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa departs the club at the end of this season.

Napoli Interested in Bologna’s Scottish Talent Ferguson

Napoli already boasts two Scottish internationals in their midfield: Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, both of whom have found success in Serie A after leaving their respective Premier League clubs last summer.

Rumors are circulating that Anguissa, a key midfielder under both Antonio Conte and Luciano Spalletti during the Scudetto-winning 2022-23 season, may leave the Stadio Maradona at the season’s end to pursue new opportunities.

Anguissa’s contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, with an option for both parties to extend until summer 2027. It remains unclear whether either side will exercise this option. Napoli could potentially extend his contract and then sell him in the summer transfer window to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Should Anguissa depart, Napoli would need to fill a gap in their starting midfield. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this could lead them to negotiate with Bologna for Lewis Ferguson.

The Italian sports daily describes the 25-year-old Ferguson as a “young leader” and praises his performances under both Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Italiano.
