Napoli Triumph 2-0 Over Torino to Strengthen Serie A Title Bid
Napoli have stretched their lead at the top of the Serie A table to three points with four matches remaining after a comfortable 2-0 win against Torino. Scott McTominay was the hero for the home side, scoring both goals to put Napoli in pole position for the Scudetto.
The title race took a dramatic turn over the past week. While Napoli had caught up to Inter at the top last weekend, they learned before kick-off that the Nerazzurri had stumbled to a 1-0 defeat against Roma earlier in the day.
McTominay opened the scoring in the 7th minute, getting in front of his marker to turn in a low cross from Zambo Anguissa. The Scottish midfielder doubled Napoli’s advantage in the 42nd minute with a similar strike, this time converting a Matteo Politano delivery from close range.
Napoli were dealt an injury blow when Frank Anguissa was forced off after taking a knock to the ribs. The home side came close to extending their lead on the hour mark when Philip Billing’s header struck the crossbar.
There was further concern for Napoli as Alessandro Buongiorno pulled up with an apparent muscular issue and had to be substituted. However, the Partenopei were able to see out a comfortable victory that puts them in a strong position with just four matches left to play.
The result leaves Napoli three points clear of Inter at the Serie A summit as they chase their first league title since 1990. Meanwhile, Torino’s hopes of European qualification took a hit as they remain in mid-table.
