Napoli’s Coach Conte Reflects on Missed Opportunity Against Udinese
Following Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Udinese, head coach Antonio Conte shared his thoughts on the match and the team’s current position. Despite missing the chance to extend their lead over Inter Milan, Conte emphasized that the real focus should be on securing European qualification.
“This wasn’t a missed opportunity to increase our lead over Inter,” Conte stated. “We should be looking at ourselves. It was a chance to gain points for European qualification. Let’s not confuse reality – we’re doing something extraordinary this season.”
Reflecting on the match, Conte noted, “Our main challenge was not capitalizing on important opportunities and allowing Udinese back into the game shortly after we scored. We deserved more from this match.”
The coach also praised Udinese’s performance, acknowledging their quality players. He expressed some regret over the missed chances but remained positive about his team’s overall performance.
In a post-match press conference, Conte further elaborated, “There’s disappointment, but I have nothing to criticize the players for. We could have better utilized our first-half opportunities and should have been more attentive. These players are achieving extraordinary things. Let’s focus on the positives, or we risk losing perspective.”
Conte concluded by reaffirming the team’s primary goal: “We have 14 games left to secure European qualification. This was the club’s request at the start of the season. Our current league position brings prestige to everyone involved.”
