Neres Injury Forces Napoli to Adjust Attack Strategy

The injury to David Neres is expected to keep the Brazilian attacker out of action for several weeks, compelling Napoli manager Antonio Conte to explore alternative options for his forward line.

Rather than repurposing fullbacks like Leonardo Spinazzola or Pasquale Mazzocchi in more advanced roles, which could potentially hamper Napoli’s offensive capabilities, Conte is reportedly contemplating more substantial tactical adjustments.

According to reports, Giacomo Raspadori has emerged as Conte’s preferred choice to fill the void left by Neres in the attacking third. However, integrating Raspadori into the starting lineup may necessitate a shift from the current 4-3-3 formation to either a 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-2 system, allowing the Italian forward to play in a more central position.

Raspadori could be in line for his first Serie A start for Napoli since August when the team faces Lazio in their upcoming fixture. The former Sassuolo striker will be under pressure to deliver a strong performance in this crucial match against a side that has already defeated Napoli twice this season.

At present, Conte does not view Noah Okafor or Cyril Ngonge as suitable alternatives for the role, further emphasizing the importance of Raspadori’s potential involvement.

The 24-year-old Raspadori has struggled to make an impact this season, scoring just once in 13 Serie A appearances. His lone goal came as a late substitute in a victory over Venezia in late December.

As Napoli adapts to the absence of Neres, all eyes will be on Raspadori and Conte’s tactical approach in the coming weeks.
