Newcastle could replace Wilson with “electric” striker in late transfer move

Newcastle could replace Wilson with “electric” striker in late transfer move

Newcastle United have been prolific in front of goal this Premier League season, largely thanks to Alexander Isak’s impressive tally of 17 goals – third highest in the league behind only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland. However, fellow striker Callum Wilson has struggled with injuries, making just 4 appearances all season.

Wilson’s injury troubles have been a recurring issue, with the England international missing a staggering 112 games since joining Newcastle in 2020. With his contract expiring this summer, it may be time for the club to move on from the unreliable forward.

Recent reports from Italy suggest AC Milan have offered Swiss striker Noah Okafor to both Newcastle and Tottenham. The 24-year-old could be an ideal late transfer target to replace Wilson in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Why Okafor would be a smart signing

Okafor has been far more available than Wilson over the past 18 months, making 39 Serie A appearances for Milan. While he has only scored once in 11 league games this season, the “electric” forward showed his potential last term with 6 goals and 2 assists despite limited starts.

The Swiss international has proven he can be an effective impact sub in a major European league. His pace and finishing ability could make him the perfect backup option to Isak. At 24, Okafor also has room to develop further under Howe’s coaching.

Signing Okafor would give Newcastle two reliable striker options heading into next season, allowing them to part ways with Wilson when his contract expires. The Milan forward’s availability and potential make him an attractive late transfer target as the Magpies look to upgrade their attacking options.
