Newcastle Eyeing £13m Italian Defender as Potential Trippier Successor
Newcastle United are considering a move for Fiorentina’s promising young right-back Michael Kayode as they prepare for life after Kieran Trippier. The 20-year-old Italian has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs with his performances in Serie A.
Eddie Howe’s side previously had a bid rejected for Kayode in the summer, but Fiorentina have now reportedly lowered their asking price to around £13 million. This could present an opportunity for Newcastle to secure a player who has been described as a “duel monster” and someone who “fears nothing” on the pitch.
Kayode’s defensive stats are particularly impressive for his age. Last season he ranked in the top 12% of Serie A full-backs for tackles won per 90 minutes. His pace, power and potential suggest he could develop into a complete modern full-back.
While not yet the creative force that Trippier is, Kayode’s signing would follow Newcastle’s recent success in recruiting from Serie A. Sandro Tonali has made a significant impact since arriving from AC Milan, with his performances in midfield changing “the whole dynamic of the team” according to observers.
If Newcastle can complete a deal, Kayode could provide competition for Tino Livramento at right-back while developing under Howe’s guidance. The Italian connection with Tonali may also help the youngster settle quickly on Tyneside.
With other Premier League clubs circling, Newcastle will need to act decisively if they want to land this exciting prospect. At £13 million, Kayode could prove to be another shrewd Italian import for the Magpies as they look to build for the future.
