Newcastle Eyeing “Very Clever” £25m Winger as Bakayoko Alternative
Newcastle United are reportedly considering Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz as a potential £25 million alternative if their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko falls through. The Magpies are looking to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Newcastle have made initial contact with Yilmaz’s representatives regarding a possible move to St James’ Park. The 24-year-old Turkey international has impressed this season, scoring 10 goals in 18 league appearances for Galatasaray.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has praised Yilmaz’s versatility and intelligence, stating: “Yilmaz is a fascinating player who ticks many boxes for Newcastle. He can play across the front three and is a very clever footballer at a good age.”
While Bakayoko remains Newcastle’s primary target, Yilmaz could prove to be an excellent alternative. The Magpies are also reportedly interested in other attacking talents, including Malaga teenager Antonio Cordero.
In addition to strengthening their attack, Newcastle are expected to pursue a center-back in the summer, with Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande among their targets. The club is also monitoring Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher as a potential addition.
As Newcastle look to build on their recent progress, securing a quality right winger appears to be a top priority for manager Eddie Howe and the club’s recruitment team. Whether it’s Bakayoko, Yilmaz, or another target, the Magpies are determined to upgrade their attacking options and improve squad depth ahead of the 2024/25 season.
