Newcastle Offered Opportunity to Sign £20m Juventus Defender
As the Premier League season nears its conclusion, Newcastle United are looking to finish strong and potentially kickstart their summer transfer activities. Reports suggest they have been offered the chance to sign Juventus defender Federico Gatti for £20 million.
The Magpies are aiming to secure a Champions League spot under Eddie Howe’s leadership, which would set the stage for an ambitious transfer window. They have already shown interest in forwards like Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Besiktas’ Semih Kilicsoy to bolster their attacking options.
Newcastle may face competition for these players, with other Premier League clubs also expressing interest. Internally, the club could see some departures, as several experienced players have yet to extend their contracts.
According to Chronicle Live, cash-strapped Juventus are looking to raise funds by offering Gatti to Newcastle. The Italian defender, known for his versatility and ability to play in a back three, has impressed in Serie A this season despite currently being sidelined with a knee injury.
Former teammate Leonardo Bonucci has described Gatti as “unique.” The 25-year-old has contributed one goal and two assists in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, while also winning 90 duels and making 23 tackles.
This potential transfer could align with Juventus’ reported interest in Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, potentially creating a scenario where both clubs effectively exchange players without significant financial outlay.
However, Newcastle will need to navigate their own financial constraints related to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before pursuing any major signings. The opportunity to acquire Gatti could prove tempting if the club can overcome these obstacles and secure European football for next season.
