Newcastle United close to signing £41m winger who wants St James’ Park move
Newcastle United are reportedly making progress in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko. The Belgian international is said to be eager to join the Premier League club, with positive talks taking place between Newcastle and the player’s representatives.
However, PSV’s £41 million (€50 million) valuation could prove a stumbling block. Newcastle may need to wait until the summer transfer window to complete the deal, potentially after raising funds through player sales.
At just 21 years old, Bakayoko has already established himself as an exciting talent. He recorded an impressive 14 goals and 14 assists last season, and has continued his strong form this campaign with 9 goal involvements before the halfway point.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig previously praised Bakayoko as an “exciting” right-winger, comparing him favorably to former Newcastle player Yankuba Minteh.
With Miguel Almiron likely to depart next year, Bakayoko could prove to be an ideal long-term replacement and immediate upgrade on the right wing. His signing would be a statement of intent for Newcastle as they look to establish themselves as regular contenders for European places.
While the transfer fee remains a hurdle, Newcastle will be keen to secure Bakayoko’s signature before other top European clubs potentially enter the race. Whether the deal happens in January or waits until summer, the young Belgian appears to be a prime target for Eddie Howe’s side as they aim to strengthen their attacking options.
