Newcastle United Eye Brazilian Goalkeeper for Summer Transfer Window

Newcastle United are reportedly setting their sights on Lyon’s Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri for a potential summer transfer. The 27-year-old shot-stopper could command a fee of up to £25 million, as the Magpies look to bolster their goalkeeping options.

According to sources in South America, Newcastle are preparing to advance negotiations for Perri, who is said to be dreaming of a move to the Premier League. With veteran keeper Martin Dubravka likely departing soon and Nick Pope not getting any younger, the club is wisely exploring reinforcements between the posts.

Perri has impressed at Lyon, making 32 appearances and keeping 11 clean sheets since joining the French side. While yet to earn a senior cap for Brazil, he has represented his country at youth level.

The goalkeeper is under contract with Lyon until 2028, which explains the substantial potential transfer fee. However, at 27, Perri would still be considered a long-term investment for Newcastle given his relative youth for his position.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle will pursue multiple goalkeeper signings, as Burnley’s James Trafford has also been consistently linked with a move to St James’ Park. Regardless, Perri appears to be high on the club’s wishlist as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.
