Newcastle United Favorites to Land £21m Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan

Newcastle United have emerged as the leading candidates to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, according to reports from Italy. The Magpies now hold a significant advantage in the pursuit of the “extraordinary” center-back.

Manager Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his defensive options in the January transfer window. While Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov remains a top target, Tomori has now entered the picture as a more affordable alternative to previous target Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Milan would prefer to sell Tomori abroad rather than to a direct Serie A rival like Napoli, who have also expressed interest. This gives Newcastle a major edge in negotiations.

The 27-year-old England international could be available for around €25 million (£21m), which fits Newcastle’s new transfer policy of targeting players with Premier League experience at reasonable prices. Tomori previously played for Chelsea before moving to Italy.

While Tomori has struggled for playing time recently at Milan, he was previously hailed as “extraordinary” and “one of the pillars” of the team by former club executive Ivan Gazidis. His prior Premier League experience and relatively low price tag make him an attractive option as Newcastle look to strengthen their backline this January.

The defender’s potential arrival would provide welcome depth and competition in central defense for the Magpies as they juggle domestic and European commitments in the second half of the season. With Milan open to a sale and Newcastle leading the race, a deal for Tomori could materialize quickly in the coming weeks.
