Newcastle United Nearing Completion of £9m+ Player Sale

Newcastle United are close to finalizing the transfer of Miguel Almiron to Atlanta United in a deal worth approximately £9.6 million. According to reports, an agreement has been reached between the clubs and the player has accepted personal terms on a four-year contract.

The 30-year-old Paraguayan midfielder is expected to travel to Atlanta later this week to undergo a medical examination and complete the formalities of the transfer. Multiple sources have confirmed the deal is essentially done, pending the medical and official announcement.

While Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has praised Almiron’s energy and work rate in the past, the player has struggled for consistent playing time this season. He has made just 9 Premier League appearances in 2024/25 without registering a goal or assist.

After 223 appearances for Newcastle since joining in 2019, scoring 30 goals and providing 12 assists, Almiron’s departure seems a sensible move for all parties. At 30 years old, a return to MLS offers him the chance for more regular football.

Though Almiron’s commitment and work ethic have been admirable during his time at Newcastle, his lack of consistent end product has been an issue. As the club looks to push on to the next level, they require more clinical attacking options.

Newcastle fans are likely to remember Almiron fondly for his positive attitude and will wish him well as he embarks on this new chapter in his career back in Major League Soccer with Atlanta.
