Newcastle United Set to Transfer Miguel Almiron Back to Atlanta United

Newcastle United has reportedly reached an agreement to transfer winger Miguel Almiron back to his former club Atlanta United. According to sources, the deal is nearly finalized, with only personal terms left to be settled between Almiron and the MLS side.

This potential transfer has been anticipated for some time, as Almiron has found himself on the fringes of manager Eddie Howe’s first-team plans this season. Despite his reduced playing time, Howe has continued to praise Almiron’s professionalism and work ethic in training.

The sale of Almiron could provide Newcastle with some much-needed financial flexibility under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. The club has been limited in its transfer activities this window due to these regulations.

While Almiron’s time at Newcastle may be coming to an end, his contributions should not be overlooked. The Paraguayan played a key role in the club’s successful 2022/23 campaign, scoring crucial goals to help secure Champions League qualification.

As Newcastle look to continue competing at the highest level, moving on from squad players on high wages like Almiron may be necessary to allow for new signings. However, Howe and the club have made it clear they value Almiron’s dedication and impact during his time on Tyneside.

With personal terms still to be finalized, the deal is not yet complete. But all signs point to Almiron making a return to Atlanta United, where he first made his name in MLS before joining Newcastle in 2019.
