Newcastle United Target Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga
Nottingham Forest may face a challenge keeping hold of winger Anthony Elanga this summer, as Premier League rivals Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing the Swedish international.
According to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle are keen to bring in Elanga as a replacement for Miguel Almiron. The Magpies have been tracking Elanga since before the January transfer window, but were unable to complete a deal at that time.
Elanga has impressed since joining Forest from Manchester United, scoring 3 goals and providing 8 assists in the Premier League this season. His performances have caught the eye of several clubs, with Newcastle now seemingly at the front of the queue.
The 22-year-old is under contract at the City Ground until 2028, putting Forest in a strong negotiating position. However, the club will be wary of losing one of their key attacking talents as they push for European qualification.
Forest currently sit 6 points above Newcastle in the Premier League table. If they were to qualify for the Champions League at Newcastle’s expense, it may deter Elanga from pursuing a move to St James’ Park.
Nonetheless, Forest will be keen to retain the services of Elanga, who has become an integral part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Losing the £25,000-per-week forward would be a significant blow to their ambitions of establishing themselves as a top Premier League club.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Forest may need to brace themselves for bids for Elanga and other key players who have shone during their impressive campaign. Retaining their top talents will be crucial if they hope to build on this season’s success in 2024/25.
