Neymar Opens Up About Messi-Mbappe Relationship at PSG
In a candid interview with former Brazilian football star Romario, Neymar shared insights into the complex dynamics between himself, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Neymar revealed that Mbappe’s attitude changed noticeably after Messi joined the team: “When Messi arrived, Mbappe became somewhat jealous. This led to some conflicts and a shift in his behavior.” The Brazilian striker explained that he and Mbappe initially had a strong bond, often spending time together off the field. However, Messi’s arrival seemed to create tension.
“I think Mbappe felt overshadowed when Messi came,” Neymar continued. “He didn’t want to share the spotlight. Our relationship completely changed, and arguments began to occur.”
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the star-studded PSG team, Neymar highlighted ego management as a critical issue: “Having egos is fine, but you need to understand that football is a team sport. With so many big egos in one place, it’s impossible to achieve success if everyone isn’t willing to work together and make sacrifices for the team.”
The interview also touched on Neymar’s departure from Barcelona, his pursuit of individual accolades, and his current situation at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Despite the ups and downs of his career, Neymar maintains that his time at PSG was when he played his best football, though injuries prevented him from reaching even greater heights.
