Nottingham Forest target Crystal Palace striker Mateta as potential Wood successor

Nottingham Forest are reportedly looking to sign Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer as they seek a long-term replacement for veteran striker Chris Wood.

Despite Wood’s impressive tally of 17 Premier League goals this season at age 33, Forest appear to be planning for the future. The club attempted to sign both Matheus Cunha and Yoane Wissa in January, signaling their intent to strengthen their attacking options.

According to reports, Forest are now among several clubs interested in Mateta, who has scored 10 goals for Palace this season. The French striker is currently deliberating over a new contract at Selhurst Park, potentially opening the door for a summer move.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner recently praised Mateta as “amazing in the box” after a two-goal performance against Manchester United. However, with Champions League clubs also monitoring the 26-year-old, Palace may face a battle to retain his services.

Mateta’s goalscoring prowess and Premier League experience could make him an ideal candidate to eventually succeed Wood as Forest’s main striker. The club will likely face stiff competition for his signature if he becomes available this summer.
