Brighton & Hove Albion defender Valentin Barco, 20, has officially joined Strasbourg on loan in Ligue 1. Both clubs confirmed the move. Barco, who came from Boca Juniors youth system, was previously on loan at Sevilla FC earlier this season. However, he played only nine games for Sevilla. Brighton recalled him and then loaned him to Strasbourg, which is owned by BlueCo.
Brighton’s head coach Fabian Hürzeler stated, “He had a tough time at Sevilla, but this loan to Strasbourg gives him a fresh start and a good chance. We hope he does well in the second half of the season.”
Strasbourg needed a left-back because Chelsea might recall Caleb Wiley, who might then go on loan to Watford in the Championship. It’s reported that Barco’s loan to Strasbourg includes an option for Strasbourg to buy him permanently. Strasbourg will play against Rennes this Sunday.
