AFC Ajax forward Chuba Akpom (29) has officially joined Lille OSC on loan with an option to make the deal permanent. Both clubs have confirmed the transfer. Akpom successfully passed his medical examination with Lille this Saturday and was present at Lille’s stadium to watch their impressive 4-1 victory in Ligue 1 against AS Saint-Etienne. He is expected to strengthen Bruno Genesio’s attacking lineup, especially with Mohamed Bayo likely moving to Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Pro League. Furthermore, Lille’s main striker, Jonathan David, has only one year left on his contract.
This season, Akpom has scored eight goals for AFC Ajax, including four in the Europa League. In the latter part of the season, Akpom will also participate in the Champions League, as Lille has already secured their place in the Round of 16 after finishing 7th in the league phase.
Akpom will wear the number 24 jersey for Lille. “I am very happy to be here,” Akpom stated. “LOSC is a significant club, one of the top teams in France, known for playing attractive football and achieving great results both in France and in European competitions.” Akpom might debut for Lille this Tuesday in a Coupe de France Round of 16 match against local rivals Dunkerque.
