The Coupe de France semi-final clash between Ligue 2 team USL Dunkerque and Ligue 1 leaders PSG is officially set to take place at Lille’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy, as announced by Dunkerque. This marks a return to Lille’s stadium for The Seasiders, who previously triumphed over Bruno Genesio’s squad there in the Coupe de France last-16 stage, winning on penalties. Dunkerque also defeated another Ligue 1 side, Brest, in the quarter-finals, overcoming a 2-0 deficit. Meanwhile, PSG comfortably defeated Saint-Brieuc, a fourth-tier team, with a 7-0 victory.
In their press release, Dunkerque explained that while their preference was to host Paris Saint-Germain at their home ground, Stade Marcel-Tribut, the stringent security measures associated with PSG matches and the French FA’s regulations made it impractical. “The club carefully considered all options, prioritizing the safety and interests of our supporters and aiming to maximize our team’s chances. Following extensive discussions with all involved parties, the decision was made to move the match to Lille’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy. This was a difficult decision, but it was made with the best interests of our club and fans at heart.”
The Dunkerque versus PSG semi-final is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st at 9:10 pm CET.
