OGC Nice Concerned About Potential ACL Injury for Mohamed Abdelmonem
Egyptian defender Mohamed Abdelmonem’s first season with OGC Nice in France has been challenging, and it may now come to a premature end. The 26-year-old center-back, who left his home country for the first time to join Nice last summer, has struggled to showcase the skills that made him a highly sought-after player.
Nice’s manager, Franck Haise, acknowledged Abdelmonem’s ongoing adaptation issues, particularly with the language barrier, during a recent press conference. Despite these challenges, Haise noted that the player was making progress and experiencing a positive phase in his development.
Abdelmonem was part of the starting lineup in Nice’s recent match against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The team achieved a historic victory, becoming the first to defeat PSG in Ligue 1 this season, boosting their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. However, Abdelmonem’s injury cast a shadow over the team’s triumph.
The Egyptian defender was forced to leave the field on a stretcher in the 67th minute following a collision with Fabián Ruiz. Visibly distressed and in tears, Abdelmonem’s condition has raised concerns about a possible ACL injury. Haise expressed his worry after the match, stating that the situation “doesn’t look promising.” Further medical tests are scheduled in the coming days to determine the extent of the injury.
This setback could significantly impact Abdelmonem’s debut season in France, potentially sidelining him for an extended period and affecting OGC Nice’s defensive options as they pursue their Champions League ambitions.
