Olympique Lyonnais Rejects Galatasaray’s Offer for Clinton Mata
Olympique Lyonnais (OL) has reportedly declined an offer from Turkish club Galatasaray for their defender Clinton Mata. The 32-year-old Angolan international has been a consistent presence in OL’s defense this season.
Despite the closure of the French transfer window, some European markets remain active, including Turkey, where transfers can be completed until next Tuesday. Galatasaray, still looking to bolster their squad, submitted a bid of approximately €5 million for Mata.
However, Lyon has rebuffed the offer, explaining to Galatasaray that they cannot part with a key player at this stage. The French club’s inability to secure a replacement due to the closed transfer window in France has factored into their decision. Additionally, Ligue 1 clubs are currently prohibited from registering free agents until the end of the season.
Mata, who is versatile enough to play both as a full-back and center-back, is under contract with Lyon until the conclusion of the next season. His importance to the team and the timing of the offer have led OL to maintain their stance against the transfer, despite the significant bid from the Turkish side.
