Olympique Marseille Owner Seeks to Buy TikTok’s US Operations
Frank McCourt, the owner of French football club Olympique Marseille, has revealed his intention to assemble a consortium of investors to acquire TikTok’s US operations. This announcement comes through Project Liberty, an initiative founded by McCourt.
The US government is set to prohibit TikTok usage nationwide from January 19th, citing national security concerns. The ban can only be averted if ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, divests its US operations. Both TikTok and ByteDance have filed a last-minute appeal to the Supreme Court, challenging this decision, and have thus far resisted selling their US branch.
Other potential buyers have also expressed interest in TikTok’s US operations. Reports suggest that Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), might be considering a purchase, although TikTok dismissed these claims as unfounded. Additionally, popular YouTuber Mr Beast has reportedly shown interest in acquiring the platform’s US division.
As the deadline approaches, the future of TikTok’s US operations remains uncertain, with multiple parties vying for control of the popular social media platform.
