Oumar Solet Makes Long-Awaited Serie A Debut for Udinese
Oumar Solet, the 24-year-old former RB Salzburg defender, has finally made his Serie A debut for Udinese. The French center-back, who had been a free agent since September after terminating his contract with RB Salzburg, was thrust into the starting lineup for Udinese’s 0-0 draw against Hellas Verona.
Solet’s journey to Serie A has been an interesting one. After being spotted at Udinese’s Bluenergy Stadium in September, he had been training with the squad but was unable to officially register with the club until January. Despite the wait, Solet expressed enthusiasm about his debut and the challenges ahead.
“I’m thrilled to have started for Udinese today,” Solet told Sky Sport Italia. “While we deserved all three points, we’ll take this one point and move forward. I’m always looking to improve, and I know I can perform better than I did today.”
Solet’s football career has seen him progress from the Stade Lavallois youth academy to Olympique Lyonnais, before a €4.5 million transfer to RB Salzburg in 2020. His contract with the Austrian club was mutually terminated with a year remaining.
Looking ahead, Solet expressed optimism about Udinese’s prospects: “I’ve been training with the team for two months now, and I can see the quality we have. We have the potential to achieve great things, but we’ll take it one game at a time.”
Despite Udinese’s goalless draw against 10-man Verona, Solet remains confident. “We pushed until the final whistle, and I believe the goals will come in our next match. We deserved to win today, but unfortunately, we’re heading home with just one point.”
As Solet settles into life in Serie A, all eyes will be on how the promising defender adapts to Italian football and contributes to Udinese’s campaign.
