Parma Names Former Inter and Roma Defender Chivu as New Head Coach
Parma has officially announced the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new head coach. The former Inter Milan and AS Roma defender takes over following Fabio Pecchia’s departure earlier this week.
According to reports, Chivu has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season. The Romanian coach brings his own backroom staff, including assistant Antonio Gagliardi, technical assistant Angelo Palombo, and goalkeeper coach Nicola Pavarini.
Chivu began his coaching career with Inter Milan’s youth teams before earning his UEFA Pro License in 2019. He progressed through Inter’s youth ranks, coaching their U17, U18, and Primavera teams. This will be Chivu’s first senior managerial role.
The new appointment comes after Pecchia, who led Parma to Serie B promotion last season, was relieved of his duties following a string of poor results. Parma has not won a league match since late December and currently sits in 18th place in Serie A with 20 points from 25 games.
Chivu faces the challenging task of steering Parma clear of relegation, with 13 matches remaining in the season. His experience developing young talent at Inter could prove valuable as he attempts to revitalize Parma’s campaign and secure their top-flight status.
