Pedro’s Italian Breakthrough: First Double for Lazio
Pedro Rodriguez rekindled the passion at Stadio Olimpico with his outstanding performance for Lazio. The Spanish forward netted twice against Monza, marking his first brace since joining Italian football. This stellar display earned him the man of the match accolade, with Pedro himself expressing his desire for a hat-trick in the post-match interview.
The significance of this achievement is underscored by Pedro’s recent goal drought. His last goal for Lazio came in the Europa League match against Ajax on December 12. In Serie A, he hadn’t found the net since October 31, when Lazio secured a 5-1 victory over Como. At the Olimpico, his last league goal dated back to October 27 against Genoa, while in Europe, he scored a crucial winner against Porto on November 7.
This double is Pedro’s first since 2019 when he was playing for Chelsea. In that instance, his two goals were instrumental in a 4-3 triumph over Slavia Prague in the Europa League – a competition Chelsea went on to win that year. Pedro also scored in the final as Chelsea defeated Arsenal 4-1.
Now, the Canary Islands-born attacker appears to be regaining his top form, ready to lead Lazio through the crucial stages of the season. His resurgence could prove pivotal for the team’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
