Spezia forward Pio Esposito, currently on loan from Inter Milan, spoke to Tmw about his present with Spezia and the ongoing speculation about a return to Inter at the end of the season.
Focus on Spezia
“Right now, my focus is solely on the remainder of the season, starting with the Cesena match this Saturday.”
Aiming for Serie A Promotion
“Our dream, at this stage of the season, is undeniably promotion to Serie A. I’ve been saying it for a while, and I was the first to break the taboo because I know my team, I know how strong we are. There’s no point in hiding. However, we are currently third; Pisa would be promoted if the season ended today. There are still nine games left, 27 points in total. Anything can happen, and we need to be ready.”
20 Goal Milestone
“Twenty goals? I’ve avoided answering this question since the beginning of the season, partly out of superstition. But I know for sure that I have far exceeded many people’s expectations, and I am proud to have proven many doubters wrong and to have shown myself what I am capable of. What interests me now is to score important goals to reach Serie A.”
Muscle Celebration Origin
“Even the stadium announcer in Spezia now introduces me as ‘the guy who shows his muscles’. It all stems from the physical transformation I’ve undergone this year. At the start of last season, I weighed 10 kilos less, but I wanted to work on my physique to become stronger on the pitch and in challenges. Hristov and I have been hitting the gym every day since last year, and the funny thing that started it all is that my biceps inflate quickly. It became a joke, and that’s how the celebration came about.”
Addressing Inter Milan Rumors
“Inter? This is a very important year, I won’t deny it. And I know very well that goal after goal, everyone talks about you; the more you do, the more they talk. But I have the team objective firmly in my mind, and I don’t let anything distract me. I only focus on working hard during the week and on the weekend’s opponent.”
